How it's worked out

These calculators give estimates — check the real numbers against your own yarn, looms and bills.

How it works

A loom inserts as many picks a minute as its RPM. Each pick is one line of cloth, and an inch of cloth has as many picks as the PPI. So:

Metres = RPM × 60 × hours × efficiency ÷ (PPI × 39.37)

39.37 is the inches in a metre. Efficiency is the share of time the loom really ran — breaks, beam changes and power cuts all come out of it.

Example: 600 RPM, 50 picks, 85%, a 12-hour shift → 600 × 60 × 12 × 0.85 = 3,67,200 picks → ÷ (50 × 39.37) = 186.54 metres a shift. Two shifts = 373.08 m a day; 30 days = 11,192 m a month.

Want your real efficiency? Put the metres woven into the loom efficiency calculator. Loomiro's loom page works out each loom's efficiency from RPM × shift hours against the picks actually woven, with a 30-day chart. Tips to raise it in the efficiency guide.
