How much yarn does this order need?Free
Enter the order's metres and the construction — get warp and weft yarn in kg with wastage, and the number of cones if you give a cone weight.
How it works
Yarn for an order is worked out the same way as fabric weight — just over the whole order instead of 100 metres:
Warp kg = ends × denier × (1 + crimp%) × metres ÷ 90,00,000Weft kg = picks × width × denier × metres ÷ 90,00,000
then wastage % on both.
Why 90,00,000? Denier is grams per 9,000 m, and there are 1,000 grams in a kg — 9,000 × 1,000. Crimp (WST) is there because warp doesn't lie straight in the cloth; it goes over and under, so 100 m of cloth takes more than 100 m of warp.
Example: 5,000 m, 8,200 × 60 den, 10% crimp, 50 picks × 65.5" × 150 den, 2% wastage → 306.68 kg of warp and 278.38 kg of weft. With 2.5 kg cones that's 123 and 112 cones (rounded up).
For a count yarn, get the denier from the converter first. Need the yarn cost too? Open Fabric Costing.
