Yarn count converterFree
Enter one number — in denier, count (Ne), Nm, tex or dtex — and get all the others at once. Plus denier per filament for filament yarn (75/36).
How it works
Denier is the weight in grams of 9,000 metres of yarn: the bigger the denier, the thicker the yarn. Count (Ne) runs the other way — the bigger the count, the finer the yarn. So the two are linked by division: denier = 5315 ÷ Ne and Ne = 5315 ÷ denier.
The other units are direct: tex = denier ÷ 9 (grams per 1,000 m), dtex = denier × 10 ÷ 9 and Nm = 9000 ÷ denier (metres per gram).
Polyester and nylon filament yarn is usually written like 75/36 — 75 denier, 36 filaments. Each filament is 75 ÷ 36 = 2.08 denier. A lower denier per filament gives a softer, more lustrous hand (micro). Cotton written as "2/40s" is a different notation — two plies of 40s, about as thick as a 20s.
Costing and taka weights need denier everywhere — for a count yarn, get the denier here first, then use it in fabric weight or Fabric Costing. More in the denier vs count guide.
