Taka weight and GSM calculatorFree
Fabric weight from the construction (ends, denier, picks, width) — kg / 100 m, GLM, GSM and the kg of one taka. Or the other way: GSM from a taka you've weighed.
How it works
Fabric weight has two parts — warp and weft. Denier is grams per 9,000 m, so for 100 m of cloth:
Warp kg / 100 m = ends × denier × (1 + crimp%) ÷ 90,000Weft kg / 100 m = picks × width × denier ÷ 90,000
The width is in the weft formula because every pick runs the full width — 1 metre of cloth has 39.37 inches × picks, each as long as the width. Add the two for kg / 100 m. Multiply by 10 for GLM (grams per metre), and divide GLM by the fabric width in metres (inch × 0.0254) for GSM.
Example (the Fabric Costing quality): 8,200 × 60 den, WST 110, 50 picks × 65.5" × 150 den → warp 6.01 + weft 5.46 = 11.47 kg / 100 m. A 117 m taka weighs about 13.42 kg; at 63" width the GSM is about 71.7.
From a weighed taka it works backwards: GLM = kg × 1000 ÷ metres. Loomiro's Taka Entry checks every taka's average per 100 m against the quality's standard and warns you on the spot when it's more than 5% off. More in the taka weight guide.
