Ends calculator — from reed and widthFree
Enter the reed, ends per dent, width (panna) and selvedge ends — and see how many ends the beam needs.
How it works
Each dent of the reed is a slot the warp passes through. The reed count says how many dents there are per inch (or per 2 inches in some places — the Stockport count). Weavers usually draw 1 to 4 ends through each dent.
Ends per inch = reed × ends per dent ÷ (1 or 2)Body ends = ends per inch × widthTotal ends = body + selvedge ends
Example: a 62 dents/inch reed, 2 ends per dent, 65.5" wide → 124 × 65.5 = 8,122 ends, plus 80 selvedge ends = 8,202. That's the "ends" figure on the beam card and in costing.
If your reed number is counted per 2 inches (Stockport), choose "2 inch" — otherwise you'll get double the ends. With the ends in hand, work out fabric weight & GSM or yarn for an order.
